How To Build A Capsule Wardrobe

I hear ya! That is why I have put together a simple guide to building a capsule wardrobe built around timeless pieces that work together effortlessly. This will help you simplify getting dressed while ensuring you always have something you love to wear.
At its heart, a capsule wardrobe is about quality over quantity. Rather than chasing trends, it focuses on carefully selected garments that reflect your personal style and can be worn season after season.

Let start with the basics. Every great capsule wardrobe begins with a foundation of classic pieces. Think tailored shirts, versatile skirts, well-cut dresses, quality denim and timeless outerwear. 1. Tailored Shirt
A tailored long or short sleeve shirt can be worn alone or under blazers and knits. Go for a navy, white or light blue which will work with the rest of your capsule wardrobe.

2. Versatile Skirt
Invest in a skirt that you love to wear. Seek out skirt shapes that suit your body type (I'll follow up with a blog on dressing for your body shape - stay tuned). The best skirt is one that can take you from the office to dinner, or kids soccer to a cocktail with the girls. I love a skirt you can wear with heels, flats and sneakers.

Invest In Versatile Pieces
The key to a successful capsule wardrobe is versatility. Each item should work with multiple pieces already in your wardrobe. The question to ask yourself before every purchase (new or preloved) is "Can I style this at least 3 different ways"?

A capsule wardrobe isn't about having less for the sake of it. It's about investing in garments that are beautifully made, thoughtfully designed and built to last.

Define Your Signature Style
The most successful capsule wardrobes reflect the person wearing them. Consider the colours, silhouettes and details you naturally gravitate towards.
Perhaps you love romantic florals, tailored classics, coastal-inspired linens or heritage-inspired dressing. Understanding your style makes it easier to build a wardrobe that feels authentically you. There are 7 universal style architypes (again, I'll follow up with a blog on that later).
Example: My style archetype is Romantic/ Feminine - I adore heritage inspired fashion and lean towards floral flowing maxi dresses and fluffy cardigans in winter. My signature style is feminine and focused on styles that suit my hourglass shape. High waisted tailored shorts for summer and looks that stand out as nostalgic in a world full of trends and fast fashion.
Edit Regularly
A capsule wardrobe evolves with your lifestyle. At the beginning of each season, review what you've worn, what you haven't and what gaps need filling.
Rather than continually adding new pieces, focus on refining your collection and ensuring every item earns its place. Sell preloved items to make way for new pieces - its what I call the 'circle of fashion'.
